It’s HS Senior Year!

Its hard to believe that my HS journey is coming to a close! If you are in the same boat as me, you must be head down into college app season. The key to success is to be organized, and to stay ahead of the game. Here are a few pointers for tackling this intimidating journey that we have ahead.

  • Make sure your college list is balanced and has a mix of safety, match, and reach schools.

  • Do you have your recommenders lined up? If not, then do not procrastinate and talk to the teachers who you think would make good recommenders for you on your college apps. Make sure you have a brag sheet ready to send to them along with your resume once they agree.

  • Have a list of all your activities, be it clubs or sports at school or your internships, jobs, or volunteer work outside of school. It all shows facets of your personality to the colleges.

  • Hopefully, you have started work on your essays, if not, then there’s no time to waste. Those app deadlines will creep up on you sooner than you think, so make sure you are writing your personal statement as well as researching and working on your supplemental essays.

  • Understand the procedure to make transcript requests through your HS and make sure you send your resume and brag sheet to your school counselor as well. Lots of colleges need the counselor recommendation also.

I know that this sounds pretty daunting but think of that moment when you get into your dream school or a school that you would love to attend. A whole new world of possibilities and opportunities awaits you in this journey ahead! I cannot wait for this new exciting phase of my life to begin!
