Exploring Washington D.C. from the Potomac River

All these years living in Northern VA, I’ve made lots of trip to DC with my parents and friends to see the museums, eat at restaurants, and have fun at the National Mall ( PS- Its a super popular picture spot for Prom pics too). One of my favorite DC spots, out of the many that there are, is Georgetown, which has some great shopping and restaurants as well as a scenic riverfront walk by the Potomac river. I used to look at all the fancy boats docked by the river and wondered about how fun it would be to see DC from the water. It just so happens that one of our close family friend’s bought a boat this year and invited us for a day of boating on the Potomac.

My parents and I packed a picnic basket and joined our friends on their boat. We started from the beautiful wharf and sailed all the way to Georgetown. Cruising by the iconic monuments and DC buildings and seeing them from the boat gave a different perspective to it all and made me see these tourist spots in a unique light. There was even a swim spot near Georgetown where we could jump into the water. That was so much fun! As the day slowly turned into the evening, we saw gorgeous sunset from the water and as all of the lights along the shore and on the buildings came on, it became even more magical. As we sailed back there was this sense of contentment that the day had gone exactly as it was supposed to.

Sometimes or maybe most times, the joy of seeing little things like a sunset or just walking along your favorite river front, makes you feel that all is right in the world. Well, it certainly was that day on the river.
