Instagram is a Highlight Reel

Summer has us all scrolling through our feeds and for you pages endlessly. Sometimes, you just can’t help but compare yourself to all the stunning girls you see on the internet.

I see a girl with great hair and think, “What products does she use for her hair? Mine is always frizzy and puffed up.” Or I see a girl with flawless makeup and think, “What’s her skincare routine? I wonder how she does her contour like that.”

It’s hard to stay secure in yourself when you see influencers and girls from school living their best lives.

But just think of all the countless times you’ve wanted a friend to delete a bad photo of you from their feed. Or the hours you’ve spent choosing between two identical photos, thinking one looks better than the other.

It’s important to remember that Instagram only shows you what people WANT you to see. Everyone wants to be perceived as gorgeous and fun and beautiful and flawless.

Nobodies Instagram feeds show their stuggles or insecurities.

You don’t scroll through Instagram profiles seeing girls fresh off the wakeup or sweating intensely after a workout.

Because just like yours, others Instagram feeds only show the “good” side of them.

Even though my Instagram feed is me, it doesn’t show the whole picture. It’s a highlight reel.
